Justice for Nikki – The Sentencing of David Bogdanov

Please find more information and RSVP here.

Nikki’s murderer, David Bogdanov was found guilty of Murder 2 and Malicious Harassment on August 27th, 2021.

We at the Justice for Nikki task force hope that the judge sentences David Bogdanov to the longest amount permitted for the class of convictions.

We want to pack the courtroom with community members to show David Bogdanov that it took a community of people advocating for Nikki that put him where he is. We ask that you wear pink, shirts with Nikki’s picture or name on them, represent Nikki in anyway that you can so people in the courtroom know you’re here to show support.

Lisa will be sharing her victim statement before sentencing is decided, and we want to make sure Lisa feels the support of the community around her who fought alongside her through these last 2 years.

We are also asking the court to allow a task force statement to be read aloud in the court. This was a hate crime and David needs to hear the impact it had on the community as a whole. If the court does not allow this, we will read our statement after the hearing on the front steps of the courthouse.

Because of COVID-19 restrictions we are unsure how many people will be allowed in the courthouse, but if you’re hoping to be inside, please make sure you’re wearing a mask. We will also ask that people outside wear a mask also where distancing can not be facilitated.

*There will be a separate vigil held on 9/9/21 at 7PM – Esther Short Park, in Vancouver, WA.

The Send off Vigil for Nikki Kuhnhausen

Please RSVP to the Facebook event here.

We have pushed so hard for Justice for Nikki over the past two years, each of us, a part of the community that was impacted by the loss of Nikki.

We want to have a chance to get together and honor Nikki together, and show love and support to Lisa and one another. We also want to give thanks for the conviction and sentencing of Nikki’s murderer, David Bogdanov.

We are looking forward to holding space with each of you who have been a part of this movement towards Justice for Nikki. This event will be held at the pavilion at Esther Short Park in Vancouver, WA. Details for the event will come later this week.

This will be a family friendly event and we encourage sharing this event with your friends. We want everyone who wants to come and honor Nikki to do so.

Because of COVID-19 this event will be an outdoor event. Please bring a mask and plan to wear it if distancing is not able to be maintained.

Guilty Verdict

Today in the courtroom the verdict was read aloud and found the defendant guilty on both Murder 2 and Malicious Harassment (Washington’s hate crime law).

We, at Justice for Nikki task force, applaud the jury’s verdicts in this case, and are happy to see the defendant held accountable for his violent, malicious act. Nikki Kuhnhausen was a daughter, a sister, an aunt and a beloved community member.

Nothing can replace her loss for those of us who loved her. The long build up to this trial, and the defense’s attempts to somehow paint Nikki, who was a 17 year old girl, as being “responsible” for the defendant’s violent actions, were excruciating for us, and particularly for Nikki’s mother Lisa.

There’s no excuse for what happened to Nikki. This hate crime wounded our community. We came together to help each other heal and cope. While that healing will take a lifetime for some of us, this verdict, in its own way, offers a sense of closure.

Please keep Lisa and the rest of Nikki’s family during this time.

We got #justicefornikki y’all!

Sentencing will be Thursday, September 9th at 8:30 AM.

Trial is in session.

Hi there supporters of Nikki Kuhnhausen.

We have made it to the Murder II with a malicious hate crime add on for the accused murderer, David Bogdanov. Each day court will begin at 9A (PST) and should wrap up each day by 5P (PST), with lunches and breaks at the judges discretion.

Unfortunately we are not able to be in the courtroom, due to COVID-19 Delta Variant procedures that are in place. House Bill 1687 – Nikki Kuhnhausen Act

On February 19, 2020 Lisa Kuhnhausen Woods went before the WA State Senate Committee to share her support for House Bill 1687, also known as the Nikki Kuhnhausen Act. This bill will remove the ability to claim diminished capacity, and use of force based on the discovery of victims gender identity.

The Nikki Kuhnhausen Act Passes Through WA Senate. On to the Governor for Signing in the Coming Weeks.

Here is a link to an article that explains more about this bill, as well as the other bills around the country that are passing to ban the ‘panic defense.’

Celebration of Life for Nikki Kuhnhausen

Join us in celebrating the life of transgender teen Nikki
Kuhnhausen on Sunday, March 1st at 5:30 pm at Clark College in Geiser Hall.

The celebration of life is being organized by Nikki’s mom, Lisa Kuhnhausen-Woods, and the group Justice for Nikki.

Nikki Kuhnhausen was a 17-year-old transgender youth who was murdered in June 2019, and her body was discovered on December 7, 2019. Nikki’s alleged killer has been arrested and charged with second degree murder in addition to a hate crime.

Nikki was one of 26 trans people murdered in the United States last year. Sadly, many of these other victims shared Nikki’s story of being killed by a man who reacted violently upon learning about their gender identity.

Justice for Nikki is a grassroots group of activists, transgender community members and parents of trans youth who are assisting the Kuhnhausen family in bringing attention to
Nikki’s tragic death.

This QR Code will take you to the Facebook Event for the Memorial Service. Please RSVP there so we know how many people to expect.
